Well, here it is, the first episode. The story behind this is pretty much what is on the intro page. A while back, I had been reading a bunch of web comics, that one of my buddies sent to me. I started thinking to myself 'Hey, now that looks sharp!'. The graphics looked so crisp and clean, yet hand drawn. I had never had much luck trying to color any of my artwork (As you can tell by my main page, I tend to only work in pencil. I'd never thought about inking drawings to scan them in pure black and white.
I came about this method, while searching the internet for methods that web comic artists used to get their graphics looking so good. I found a particularly good resource in Mac Hall's Art Stuff Page. I promply bought a few good supplies, and began experimenting with random images, stupid characters that I had no plan of re-creating. I showed them to a few friends, and they thought they looked pretty good, for first attempts. So I kept at it for a couple nights. Then one night, inspiration hit me. I had previously been playing Ultima Online, the game which this strip is based on (and if you currently read these, then you probably know what it is... if not, then you probably don't get some of the humour). After playing for a short while, I decided to go back to drawing and thought 'Hey, why not draw my UO character, and my buddies UO character, while making some stupid joke? Maybe the guild will get a laugh out of it!'. My guild being the Death Corps, on the Catskills shard. The rest is history, I guess. I did a quick Google image search for 'castle', and found the background here. I picked it, because when I saw the lawn of it, I immediately thought of the joke I could write, involving it. Since our guildmaster, Elmdor is very proper (albeit evil) in character, I thought it would be fitting. I showed this panel to members of the guild, and they told me I should keep making them, and so... I am! |
